Microsoft Dynamics CRM - Importing a Solution on another CRM Instance

Hi All,

I am facing this strange issue wherein, I am trying to export an Unmanaged Solution to a Trial CRM Instance. The Source CRM is an CRM Online version with Portal Configured in it. Now, the issue is there were couple of dependency issues which i experienced while importing the solution to Trial CRM version(Target CRM Instance). But, I am getting few issues which is related to ckeditor which is a part of Managed solutions (MicrosoftCRMPortalBase). I am attaching the screenshot of the issues along with this thread.

Below are the steps which i followed along with my findings :

1) Configured Portal on the Trial Instance(Target CRM Instance) - This in turn installed all the solutions in CRM which would also contain MicrosoftCRMPortalBase Managed Solution.

2) Exported the required Unmanaged Solution to be deployed on Target CRM Instance.

3) Trying to Import the explorted Solution from Step 2, getting issues related to ckeditor.

One more strange thing i noticed is the version of the MicrosoftCRMPortalBase solution between both Source and Target is Different. Also, ckeditor doesnt have the config.js file in the target Managed Solutions Web Resources while Source has that.

Please help needed on this urgently.

I did that and got the issue resolved. Its about the publisher we can create a publisher with adx_ as the prefix and add the two JS Files(Web Resources). Thanks for the inputs Oliver really appreciate your effort. Thanks alot.

in regards to the name, you can create a solution with the ADX published, which then would have the prefixes as adx_

the GUID you are right, it won't match, so I am not sure it would work anyway

did you investigate why your portal solutions are different ? you may have other impacts for something missing that you haven't noticed yet

    Hi Oliver,

Do you mean I create a new solution in Target Instance and under web resources add these two JS Files?

My question here is if even i add that it won't match the missing Web resources JS Files as you can see the Name/Id which is a unique key for the missing JS files is "adx_WebResourceName" and when i will create these two in a new solution it will be like "new_WebResourceName" which will not match. Does it make sense .. because i tried this in the primary investigation.

Alternate approach : I also tried the link https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/117/t/206830 this link has Managed and Unmanaged Solution for CkEditor whose publisher is not Microsoft, but again the thing is the missing file is which i mentioned above and the files which the above link has is like "ckeditor_WebResourceName" which will not match while importing.

Let me know if you have any other approach to resolve this issue.

    Thanks Alot!!!

that's weird.. adding the components should have worked

can you try also creating an isolated solution with only the 2 JavaScript ?

I would also try creating those components manually in your target environment, with the exact same name, and you can copy the content manually from source to target, as they are just JS files

but not sure this would work as it might related to the GUID

Hi Oliver, Yes those web resources are being used in source CRM Instance. The thing is first the config.js file is missing from the target managed solutions managed resources and there is no way i can manually add that to match the missing web resource. Secondly, i cannot modify the source CRM Instance because then there will be impact on my present code and customizations in the source CRM Instance. I have already tried adding the web resources in Source Solution and importing it to Trial instance but no luck. Do you have any other solution for this. Please do let me know..

as you said, the portal versions are not the same, so could be something that those web resources are deprecated, or you installed a different version of the portal in your Trial

anyway, are you using those web resources for some reason in your solution ? see the dependencies, and maybe you don't even need to have those items in your solution, it is a good approach to keep your solution as minimal as possible, only the components you need to push to other environments should be in your solution

if you are using those web resources, they are probably in you source environment.. you can simply add those and export the solution again, than you will have those components also in the target environment
