Dynamics NAV developer without PartnerSource

Hi everyone,

I am a software developer and new to NAV. Would it be enough to have an MSDN subscription to get everthing that is needed to setup a full learning environment for NAV 2015. Or do I still need some materials from the PartnerSource website. I am a single developer and do not have access to either PartnerSource or CustomerSource centers.

Any advice is very much appreciated.

You'll need access to PartnerSource or Custumer Source. At MSDN you'll find only base product downloads and documentation, but some whitepapers, tools, etc. are only available there.

    Good luck!

    hi,

for hotfixes, updates and many specific product docs you'll need at least a customer source account.

start creating a windows live id account and follow www.microsoft.com/.../default.aspx.

write a mail to itmbssup@microsoft.com and describe your situation, they will help you.

you'll find many tutorials at youtube.com

    and ... by a nav book ;-).

also check out, if you could become a nav partner for yourself.

If you need to do the development you need to have developer license

    community.dynamics.com/.../105602.aspx

    dynamicsuser.net/.../433.aspx

Addition to that if you need hotfixes and other product related releases you need to have a partner or customer login. (But this is not a problem because there are thousands of sites available to download these materials)

Plus there are so many books available for you to read and learn NAV development.

    Refer following books :

    www.packtpub.com/.../programming-microsoft%C2%AE-dynamics%E2%84%A2-nav

    www.packtpub.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-nav-7-programming-cookbook

    www.packtpub.com/.../getting-started-dynamics-nav-2013-application-development

    www.packtpub.com/.../implementing-microsoft-dynamics-nav-2013

Only problem is with the developer license.

Humm, Doesn't an MSDN subscription come with the correct software to do development with NAV then? Or are we talking about a different developer license!

when you download and install dynamics nav, you can use it like you use MS word/excel as end user. you can create data (sales orders, ...). but ... you cannot change the nav objects (pages, tables, reports). for that you need a dev. license, either you buy one or you work for a nav partner. this makes as private person only sense, if you wanna work as independent nav consultant.

You will not be able to do any modification to the objects in the Dynamics NAV and only you can do is just use the product as a end user.

If you are a software developer I don't think it will make any sense to you because I am sure you want to do the modification and do new development in NAV.

For that, you need to have a separate Developer license and 2 ways of getting it. One is work under a Dynamics NAV partner.

02 is purchase it by your own license. For more info about cost please refer my previous post links.
