hi,

i would like to import Production data only to Sandbox envrionment.

1) If I use restore from Production option, will it copy just data or everything from production?

2) Copy environment copy schema or everything. i dont want to use this option.

What approaches I can take to just restore data from Production.

The Power Platform Admin Center will allow you to create a copy of production to overwrite your Sandbox, but as you noted there are only two options.

Copy everything, which would include all of your data long with the underlying structure, like tables/automations/settings/etc.

Copy just the underlying structure

There is no option to only bring over data, because how can the system bring over data unless it knows that the underlying structure is the same? If you want to bring just data over, you will essentially need to do a data migration. I would recommend looking at using Dataflows for this approach, as it is included without additional cost and is great at moving records in bulk and mapping between environments. Other options include using manual imports, a more formal tool like KingsWaysoft, or any other number of ETL tools to accomplish the data migration.

One important note: If your production environment uses managed solutions, DO NOT USE IT TO OVERWRITE YOUR SANDBOX. This will essentially lock you out of your solutions and you are going to have a very bad day.

Hi,

Do you have access to LCS? I am copying everything via LCS. Works perfectly, however, we also have the same version, including all customizations in PROD and Sandboxes. By same version I mean the main version 10.0.43, the proactive updates dont matter.

HI Jeff,

Can you tell us what Dynamics 365 application this question is related to? There are several different solutions in the Dynamics 365 family, like: Sales, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Project Operations, and Business Central.

Or is your question related to only a Power Platform environment?
