Is There a Step by Step Guide for bringing in Historical Account Information with Integration Manager?

Hi,

We are starting to bring in historical account information to our test company. We intend to use Integration Manager, unless someone suggest an easier way. Here's a little back info.

  • We have changed the default chart of accounts majorly to fit our business needs.
  • We added new financial categories
  • Some of our accounts now have new names, or are joined with other accounts

Is there any good integration manager guides out there that take you step by step through this process? I'm hoping it'll be as easy as possible!

Thanks

    Hi Mahmoud,

Here's my update: I did try to use the copy and paste to move all of these historical summaries into GP. When i tried to post, i was told i couldn't because i had a retained earnings account included and it isn't a balance sheet account.

How can i go about entering this retained earnings account correctly?

Then, I proceeded to enter the rest of the accounts as a batch - which was off (because the retained earnings account wasn't included). When i went to batches, it showed i had a transaction error, and it needed to be edited. I then went to the batch recovery window and said to re display and continue. However this process went back and forth...

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? I can't wait to figure all of this out and start preparing to actually use the system!

    Thanks!

    Hello Kim

Those are the default predefined fields, the distribution reference can be left empty if it is not required.

As for the account details, you will have to include the account number not (description).

Please never hesitate to share any further concerns,

Mahmoud, I noticed you used distribution reference - would I have to use this field? Could I use Account Description as a field as well?

    Hi Mahmoud,

Sorry for my late response. I've been busy with other projects. This seems like a fantastic fix! I'll be sure to give it a try.

    Thanks!

How about a very simpler method to import these journal entries :)

Wouldn't it be quite easy to just copy and paste the data from Excel to Dynamics GP, see the template below for using the copy paste feature:

    Note:

The AA alias is only filled in where you want to include analytical accounting details. Otherwise, leave it empty. Which makes the required fields:

    • Distribution Reference
    • Account Number
    • Debit
    • Credit

Then on the journal entry window, fill in the header details and then place the mouse cursor on the first line of the grid, and click "Paste"

Isn't it much more easier to import your balances :)

You may find this feature discussed in details on Dynamics GP 2013 R2 - Copy Paste Journals form Excel

The analytical accounting details are included, you will have to follow the same steps without considering the AAalias,

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

I went ahead and made two new files - one tab delimited- txt and another comma delimited -csv. I got the same problem out of both - it made my column headings into a string.

    Hi Shan,

Yes, I pressed the apply button. I'll try a new file. Update you guys soon.

Basic question. Once you load the file, did you click the apply button ? If not, try clicking it and check the columns tab. Basically, it should load all the columns from that file once the file is selected. Can you try creating a new file with Tab delimited CSV and give it a try.

    Kimberly

Just a quick question, are you creating GL journal entries for the account balances ?
