Hi All ,

As per the below link we can define the number sequence as Alphanumeric. I tried the same in the my environment , but it is throwing the error .

axtechhouse.wordpress.com/.../number-sequence-scope-segments-in-ax-2012.

Did any one succeed using the above example in AX 2012 ?

    RE: Number sequence

You cannot use Largest = 9999

    That will not work.

    Use Largest = 99999999

    RE: Number sequence

Thank you TIm for your time to test my scenerio and reply,

In my case also it is working same as you said , but it fails when the Next number reaches to largest number.

In the link what it says that  intailly it starts with AAAA-00000 then when the Next number reaches 9999

Number should generate AAAB-0000 but it is throwing the error as mentioned above.

What i suggest you change  the next number as largest number , then try to create the vendor code , you would get the same error.

I mean keep the Largest number as 9999 and keep the Next number 9997 , then try to create the vendors , it will create  AAAA-9997 , AAAA-9998 , AAAA-9999 , then it throws the error.

Please let me know that what i am thinking and doing is right ?

    RE: Number sequence

Hi - I just re-read the original posting, and this number format also works:

    I got a Vendor code of AAAB-0000

    What error?

I may have given you too many 9's in the largest number.

I have setup my Vendor number sequence like this:

    5734.New-vendor.GIF

When I create a new vendor I see:

What transaction is giving you an error - what error?

    Thank you Tim ,

I tried as you said that by creating the new number series, Largest number, next number and assigned  number series to vendor account and Journal batch number to achieve the alpha numaric number series as per link .

Still the same error exists .

I did not understand what is the wrong .

    RE: Number sequence

What should i need to fill the Largest number ?

The number you want to stop the number sequence at. Normally this is the largest number that the format will hold. For a format of &&&&#### you can use a largest number of 999,999,999 (which should give you a few years' worth of batch numbers)

What should i need to fill the next number ?

The number you want to start the number sequence at. Normally 1, but at a go live sometimes you want to carry on number from the last number used by your legacy system

Does it alphanumeric functionality is applicable to to all modules or some specific documents  ?

All modules (all number sequences). But beware that there is no validation that the number sequence format is not longer that the database field the number is assigned to. So for instance the sales order number is (I think) 10 characters long, but if you use a number sequence format longer than this the system truncates the next number and you get 'duplicates'.

As mentioned to you already above - this is working as per the example.

Is sounds like you did not accurately copy the example in the blog.

If I had to bet - you did not change your 'largest" number setting to 6 digits as in the example, but left it as 4 digits
