Management Reporter 2012 publish to sharepoint - how to view files

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hello

I am publishing Management Reporter files (.aspx) to a SharePoint Library, and the files generate and are published, but they don't open.  They appear as a link in the SharePoint library, but I get a blank screen when I click on the link.

Are there any additional steps that need to be taken to view these files in a SharePoint library?
thanks,
Mark

To clarify, specifically I'm not seeing the options when you click on an aspx file.

    • Choose how you'd like to view this report
      • Management Reporter 2012 for Microsoft ....
      • Microsoft Excel
      • XPS Viewer

I still have not found a solution for this issue....anyone else have this issue?

This is the part of the report publishing to SP that I am not seeing (from this post - community.dynamics.com/.../how-to-publish-management-reporter-reports-to-sharepoint.aspx)

    8. When you click any report, it'll open like this where you can have the option of viewing it in Excel, Report viewer or XPS document. You can also set a default view so that next time it won't ask for a choice.

    Hello,

In the newest versions of MR they open automatically in the Web Viewer from SharePoint links.  I know there are only certain versions of the web browser that are supported.  IE 10 is the first supported version of IE so I would make sure you are on that version.

A good test would be as to whether or not a report will open in the web viewer on that machine directly from MR.

    Thanks!

Hey - thanks for the response. The web viewer does open on the machine running MR no problem.  And the reports do publish to SharePoint (the links), but they are very small in size (3kb).  I am using IE10.  The files in the MR client library are roughly 1MB.

I noticed on the MR server, when I run the reports from the Library (MR client), the web viewer opens with the URL http://servername:4720/Report.svc/report/

The configuration is as follows (currently in a DEV environment):

    • GP2010, SQL Server, Management reporter server and client are on the same VM
    • SharePoint 2010, and Reporting Services in SharePoint mode, are on another VM

Is this configuration OK?  There are no MR components installed on the SP server.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hello Mark,

That configuration sounds ok to me.  Is port 4720 a port you selected separately for your MR install?  Usually it is 4712.

Another test that I can think of to try is to open the Output and Distribution tab on a report and generate it to a related report link location on the network.  (\\servername\foldername)

It should produce a link that will open the report in the web.  If that works then we know it is potentially the way the sharepoint site is set up.

    Thanks!

    Mark,

To ensure SharePoint is ok I would check the following link.

    Thanks!

    Hi Cory

Many thanks on the suggestion to try to a file share - that works.  I will review the link you sent on SharePoint to see if that might be causing the issue.

    I'll report back shortly.

Seriously - Link to a document content type?  That was the answer - and I saw it right away in the configuration page you sent me - I didn't even have to finish the page read.  I didn't even think of that.

Cory - great help you were!  Thanks again!
