Data Import - Relating Custom Entity via a Lookup field to Account Record

Hi all,

I have been having an issue with a data import for about a month now and really need sone help on this upload, as there is 4000 records and it will take me months to do everything by hand.

I have a custom Entity called Jobs, which has an N:1 relationship with Account. Jobs has a field called Associated Account Number, which is a Lookup field meant to look up the Account Number on the Account record and relate the two. Every attempt at a data import fails all records because "The Lookup Value Cannot be Resolved"

This doesn't make sense to me, because every single account number is already input and linked to each Account in our Dynamics 365 Sales App. I can post whatever information necessary to give a paint a better picture on this problem, just ask.

Really need some help on this one, thank you in advance.

    Hi Dominic,

First, we need to confirm, is Account Number an entity? Because the lookup field can only be used to lookup entity record.

If Account Number is an entity, what is the relationship between Account Number and Account? 1: N or N:1?

Or the lookup field of the relationship between Job and Account is "Account Number" field?

Please provide a screenshot of the relationship between Job and Account, like this.

We need to check the display name of the lookup field.

    Hi Lu,

Thank you in advance for your response. Account Number is a field in the Account entity.

    Here is the screenshot requested:

    Hi Dominic,

This is my test procedure and I was able to successfully import the data. Refer to it to check if you are missing something.

Background: I have a custom entity "Job" with a lookup field "Associated Account Number".

Go to Settings > Data Management > Templates for Data Import, select Job and download.

Edit the Excel, add a column "Associated Account Number" and enter some data.

    Import the Excel into D365.

In the Map Fields step, the "Associated Account Number" field has been mapped to the lookup field by default, we need to change it to any other option first, and then re-select the lookup field for it. In this way, it allows us to select the fields of the entity(Account) of the lookup field. Then we can select Account Number field.

    Import success.
