I have two questions regarding custom quote numbering.

1: Can I have different custom quote numbering schemes for different business units? (I have 3 different companies that I have seperated into 3 different business units within our CRM system that each use different quote numbering systems)

2: I am attempting to create a quote numbering scheme that follows this format:

Initials of sales rep-date-number of quotes created that day "XX-YYMMDD-##"

I would like to be able to do this for 4 different sales reps and also the ability to add future sales reps that may be added in the future.

Is this possible, if so how?

Also, not sure if this matters but right now we have CRM 2015 on premises but will be upgrading to 2016 in 2 weeks.

Yes, you are able to achive it via plugin, but

1. you need to write your own logic for business unit part and quote number format

2. you need to ensure you lock the entity ,else duplicate quote number might occur.

3. make sure you register this plug-in on the Create message and pre-event stage.

Custom Quote numbering is possible.

You can write Pre-Operation plugin and put your custom number in the quotenumber field in context record. This will work.

LOL, you wouldn't happen to be able to tell/show me how to write a plug in would you? I have never done that before, so something that is step by step would be awesome.

I think this is probably the best track for me. My question on this would be if I could combine 3 parts. The initials for my sells reps is easy enough now that I've read your link. I can just follow the directions and make the lookup be the account owner name and have that referenced to records I create with their initials.

The next part would be to have the actual date the quote was created. Not sure if this could be done in some way by just referencing the date on the record.

The 3rd part would be having an auto counter that reset every day.

Lastly, how I would go about combining all 3 elements into one.

For me doing this with no coding would be ideal, but I'm willing to learn whatever I need to do. However I feel like this should be achievable using a method similar to what you referenced in the link.
