Edit Custom Fields of Emails from Outlook

I'have added custom fields (two options box) into the Email entity. This fields are editable from the "CRM Fields" view in Outlook.

Now, from what I know, Custom fields are only editable when the mail is Open.

That means those fields are not editable once the mail is sent or when a mail is received. In these two cases, we cann't set the fields.

Is there anyway to keep them editable and be able to edit this fields (and save the email) even for sent or received e-mail?

Thanks a lot

You can't do that. There is no way to do that as of now.

Hi Fed, once an activity email is sent/recieved it becomes completed and readonly as a historical record. Another approach is to have a custom entity that records the Product enquiry against the channel and use a workflow to create a new record whenever an email is sent with the product type selected?

This will allow you to record all your enquires of products vs channel vs customer , and give you the flexibility to update the product

I hope this answers your question, Kindly Verify :)

    Best Wishes, Raz

    It's unfortunate that's there's no direct way to edit a sent/received email.

However an easy workaround is that:

You can create a dialog (and create a button for it using Scott's ribbon workbench).

Users can then click the button on the email and be presented with the variables that you have added. The dialog can then update the values on the email record.

Alternatively if you know the values that might be known beforehand, you can even make it more user friendly by creating workflow instead and connect to the button.

A common scenario, where workflow could work is when you want to increase or decrease the priority of an email.

    Hope it helps.
