Using CRM Dynamics 365 SDK

I am new to Dynamics CRM 365.I downloaded this SDK from Microsoft's site. But I am struggling a bit using the code samples present inside as I believe the SDK lacks documentation. Prior to this I have been into SharePoint where with online version we had client side options only for business extensions. I assume I will be having the same in CRM Dynamics 365 online version as well. Really having hard time understanding this SDK.

If anybody has used or has idea about using this SDK please help me out. Any suggestions how to use these code samples in visual studio are most welcomed.

If compare CRM development with SharePoint, there are quite a few differences.

    • You can do clientside scripting on forms, but it's more limited than SharePoint. E.g. it's not support to access the DOM directly. You can use the methods defined in the SDK to interact with the form
    • You can also add webresources (html/css/javascript) and there you can control everything within it's context
    • Other than SharePoint, you can use c# in plugins, actions and workflow activities. In CRM online they are limited en what you can do (especially referencing externa assemblies) because you have to run in a sandbox.
    • The SDK also has several examples on connection to CRM from remote applications (console app / web app)
    • And there's a very good rest api availble which you can use from within CRM or from outside CRM when you authenticate through Azure AD.

It would if you explain what you are trying to do.

    Thank you for replying.

I went to the JS folder present in the SDK. Opened it and then went into formScript folder (I assume of which usage is to get familiar with scripting on CRM forms  ). Now when I tried running the solution file, it takes me to localhost. I thought it will present me with a window to enter login credentials for my online CRM instance to connect with.

    Hi,

What do you mean by SDK "lack documentation"? There is a 16MB file called something like "CrmSdk2016.chm" (or whatever version you have) and there is a lot of information about how to code and how to use Samples, there is also Readme.docx inside SampleCode folder that describes how to use the samples. You should first go through some CRM customizations basics (how to register JS on the form, how to register a plugin and how plugins work etc.) before you move to sample code.

    Hello Mohd

Has this issue been resolved? If not, then I would like to recommend using Tenfold to integrate with your phone system to Office 365. Its really easy and will only take a few minutes to set up. They support MS Dynamics integration. Here's the link if your interested www.tenfold.com/.../microsoft-office-365
