Hi everybody! We use MS Dynamics AX 4.0 on MS SQL 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Our company going to move on MS SQL 2017 with Windows Server 2012/2016. Does it will work?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Shazzz,

You may not like the answer but the version is very old and is not supported anymore.

Even the content related to AX4.0 has been retired.

Your best bet is to upgrade/test OR if you still have active contract with Partner/Microsoft, reach out to them for help.

    Thanks,

    Thanks for your answer, Satish!

Actually, i have an installed windows server 2016 and ms sql server 2017 in failover cluster. Axapta application server is also installed on windows server 2016. Client application is work, but i have a doubt about everyone else features of Axapta 4.0. Also i tested the most complex calculations. They works but 20% slower.

If i understand right AX 4.0 officially support MS SQL 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and not higher? And to have no risks better to stay on current version what we have. Right?

    Hi Shazzz,

I don't have MS requirement document for AX4.0 and trying to find it didn't get me anything as content from MS is retired now. Is your contract still active with MS? If not, suggest that you don't do much changes to avoid business disruption unless business really wants to take on this risk (I doubt). You may see 20% performance gain but what if after few months, you run into some issues and there is no support around?

    Thanks,

Thank you for your advice. We watching 20% performance degradation on new hardware and software (ver. 2016/2017) and don't want any problem with maintenance AX 4.0 in the future, that's why we will prefer to stay on current hardware and software. Now it 2008 R2.
