Workflow sequence

Hi everyone,

I have inherited quite a messy CRM that I am trying to make sense of. There are several workflows that start when the record is created. Many of these need to run before others for everything to work as intended. I know these were not built properly, but is there a way I can determine the current sequence that these run?

Thanks,

Mack

    Hi Mack,

I don't think there is a right way to answer your question because the workflows run in parallel so there is no order. They might get kicked off sequentially (my guess is oldest first by created on), but that's no guarantee that they'll finish in the same order.

If you want to try and measure which workflows run, relative to the trigger, you can edit them so the first action is to create a task, and in the subject include the workflow name and the execution time. Then trigger the action and see the order of the tasks that were created. Of course, that will probably just get down to the Minute component and ignore the seconds so you may not get too much helpful info.

Hope this helps! I'd appreciate if you'd mark this as Answering your question.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your response! That is definitely the goal, as that is probably how most of these should have been built from the beginning. However, right now they need to see what the sequence currently is for the workflows already in place before we make any changes.

    Hello Mack,

If you have sequence then just leave workflow that should fire first as it is. Change all other workflows to on-demand workflows. In the end of first workflow execute workflow with number 2, in 2-nd in the end - 3-rd, e.t.c. In this way you will easilly build your sequence.
