What is the purpose of Retail Offline Sync Service and how does it work?

Retail Offline Sync Service is in manual starting mode and it is stopped - when I start the service I cannot start the POS because of error.

When Retail Offline Sync Service is stopped POS is starting normally and it is connected to POS offline database (which is empty) and to STORE database (where the sales transactions are).

I assume that it is the service for synchronizing between offline pos and store databases (local and remote as noted in POS config file) but I don't know what should be configured to get proper synch between those two databases.

In theory that should work automatically but it doesn't. Offline POS database is empty and because of that when I make store database unavailable to POS it won't start at all, but when it is available I could normally use POS and sell products.

offline sync services sync's your offline db with the pos db.

Offline sync is terminal specific, when the terminal is offline all transactions get stored in the offline DB. when the terminal comesback online, offline sync service sync all the transactions in your offline db to posdb. It also sync's all but retail transactions from POSdb to offline db.. hope this answers your question...

what error are you getting while starting the offline sync service?

WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.

To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.

Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging.

To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog].
