Creating a contact segment in Real Time Journeys

Hi
I'm trying to create a segment of contacts in RTJ using a list of their emails. the list could be long and I'd like to be able to use something like: Email IN (list of email addresses).
So I can get to where I choose the email as the attribute to use for the selection of contacts. I can choose 'IN' as part of the criterion. But when I get to enter the values, which would be a list of email addresses, I don't know how to do that. Is it just list the email addresses with some character/symbol as a separator? I tried ; and then | , but that didn't work.
Thanks

    Hi there –

You're on the right track using the "Email IN" operator in Real-Time Journeys (RTJ) segments. However, the RTJ segment builder does not currently support bulk entry of values using separators like ; or | directly in the UI.

To work around this, here are a few options:

    1. Use a Static Segment via Import

If you have a long list of email addresses, the most efficient method is to:

    • Create a CSV file with the email addresses.

    • Import that list into Dataverse as contacts (if they aren’t already).

    • Create a static segment in RTJ using that imported list.

    Documentation:

Create and manage segments in Real-Time Journeys

    2. Use a Segment with a Custom Attribute

If your contacts have a shared attribute (e.g., a tag or custom field), you can filter by that instead of listing individual emails.

    3. Use a Segment with Multiple Conditions

If the list is short, you can manually add multiple conditions like:

    Email = user1@example.com
    OR Email = user2@example.com
    OR Email = user3@example.com

But this becomes impractical for large lists.

    4. Advanced Filtering via Dataverse or Power Automate

For more dynamic segmentation, consider using Dataverse views or Power Automate flows to tag or group contacts based on your email list, then build your segment based on that tag.
