Connecting Power BI to Production Entity Store Database (AxDw)

I feel like I had this working about 6 months ago, but through other projects and a new laptop, I seem to have lost my way.  I would like to connect Power BI desktop to the production entity store database using DirectQuery. It seems that I need:

server ()

database (<prodname>_axdw_<code>),

username (axdwreadonly)

password (???)

I can see some of these values for our test instance in LCS, but not production.  I assume that the server name would need to be a fully qualified azure server for the SB-BI-1 server (<prodname>bi.eastus2.cloudapp.azure.com) and may also need a port.  Since the AxDw server is not transactional and is there for adhoc analysis, I do not see a reason that it should be off limits.  Am I crazy that I connected to it previously?  Is this possible or am I wasting my time?

You can't access the production database directly. That has never been possible.

Ok.  Why is it so inaccessible?  I don't understand why Microsoft is making production data access so difficult.  Its a data warehouse.

Maybe it's about allowing access to production data only with AAD authentication.

Fine.  How do I access the Entity Store database from PowerBI using my AAD authentication?

With PowerBI Embedded. That's the only way. docs.microsoft.com/.../power-bi-embedded-integration

But, you can publish entities and aggregate measurements to your own Azure SQL database (BYODB) as a workaround.
