When you say account , is it customer /vendor account ? You can use journals functionality to create those.
You can of course create a debit/credit note in journals only.
When doing that you have to consider that you might not be allowed to post directly on summary accounts that are used for AP/AR.
Another thing you have to consider is that you won't get debit/credit note documents from journals that you can send out to your customers/vendors. Issues with tax authorities might be an issue.
Finally, note that posting directly on accounts that are used in posting profiles in AP/AR, etc. will result in differences between the different ledgers. Those differences will be shown in reconciliation reports.
Not sure what you plan to do but it might be faster and easier making a proper correction from AR/AP rather than trying to use GL journals for that.
