In AX 2012 R3 there is a feature of "Manage gate entry and exit of goods" that is associated with Country/Region: India. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn876577.aspx
I had enabled this feature in AX 2012 R3 for all country regions by resetting the CountryRegionCode property in AOT. I had to make changes to all relevant objects i.e menu-items, tables, EDTs etc. It fulfilled the requirement without any issue.
I need to enable the same in Dynamics 365.
I have tried first with a relevant setup form (Inventory site gates) and relevant objects by making the Extensions in my own model i.e. containing the reference to application suite. It did enabled the form in Inventory management --> Setup --> Inventory breakdown --> inventory site gates. But when I open the form and try to add new records, data and lines in the grids doesn't appear as those should be.
Then I tried the over layering (customize) approach with the objects. This did resolved the issue of data entry but as we know over layering is not recommended by Microsoft that is why I am curious if I can somehow manage to get this done by extension approach.
Any ideas are highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Overlayering is not possibly anymore to deploy on production environments. So, the word not recommended is outdated here. It is not possible anymore. You have to work with extensions.
As of platform update 20, you can try to work with Chain of Commands on form methods. If this is not possible for your changes, you can consider copy the form in your own model. Then you can change any method as it will be your own version. Using a menu item extension, you can then change the behavior to start your form.
