Is it possible to migrate a Dynamics 365 On-Premise database to the 365 Cloud platform without utilising software such as Scribe etc. I'm wondering if it is possible to backup and restore the database?I know there are some solutions for migration from 2011 to 365 in the US but this is a simple move from on-premise to cloud 365 and we are in the UK so the US options aren't available to us
Ideally I would hope to migrate the 8.2 on-premise database to v9 but appreciate that we may need to go 8.2->8.2 then update to 9
As you said the service is available only in the US, you will need to use Scribe or Kingswaysoft,...
Thanks. That's pretty much what I suspected, although I was hoping a straightforward lift'n'shift from on-premise to cloud would be achievable.
Do Microsoft have any tools to assist with migration for new customers (I'm aware there is an aggressive push to get clients on O365/Azure) or is it really just a case of writing migrations in Scribe/Kingswaysoft?
nope MS does not assit you in those steps for now but kingswaysoft has released a migration starter pack:
A shame they don't provide a simple uplift route. Time to get my hands dirty in SSIS.
Appreciate the responses.
I just found this thread, and I'm not sure if we've been in contact, but you should consider the Synchronicity Echo managed service for data migration. Usually 10% of the cost of a services led implementation (using tools like Scribe or Kingswaysoft). www.synchronicity-systems.com/echo, or email@example.com
I hope this helps!
Miscrosoft gives a solution for migration to Version 9 online, known as LifeCycleServices.
Microsoft has launched a process called Microsoft FastTrack https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/fasttrack/?rtc=1 which may help you to migrate from D365 on premise to D365 online. Please have a look.
Try FastTrack from Microsoft.
