Internal Movements – Location Code locked

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue with Internal Movements in Dynamics 365 Business Central.

In Production, when I open Internal Movements and click New, I immediately get the following error:

“You cannot change Location Code because one or more lines exist.”This happens right away, before I make any changes on the page.

Has anyone experienced this issue before, especially where it occurs only in Production? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi AJ,

This can be a bit of a frustrating error. I'm not sure what will fix the problem but this is what I would try first:

1. Search for Warehouse Employees and make sure no employees have a location code that = blank or that have a location code assigned that doesn't exist:

And make sure you have been assigned to a default location.

2. The location you are trying to select or that is assigned to the employees in Warehouse Employees should be set with the following settings:

Bin Mandatory = True and Directed Picks and put-aways = False:

I believe that should fix your error but if it doesn't please post any further errors you receive.

Hello AJ,

This error normally means Business Central is trying to set/change the Location Code on a new Internal Movement, but the document already has lines behind the scenes; on a new Internal Movement the expected flow is No. → Location Code → To Bin Code → then lines, because the location should be fixed before lines exist. Since it happens immediately only in Production, I’d first check for a personalization/extension/custom trigger that auto-fills lines, default location, bin contents, or copies old lines when the page opens; also test with Personalization disabled, another user, and a clean sandbox copy of Production. If it is standard only, try deleting the half-created Internal Movement header/lines from the page if visible, check warehouse employee/default location setup, and compare Production vs Sandbox extensions. Most likely this is not normal standard behavior, but a customization/data issue around auto-populating lines before the Location Code is validated.
