I have custom entities called "Demo" and "Demo Line Items" (similar to quote and quote line items). We need to generate a Word Template of "Demo" & "Demo Line Items". The catch is we must not include all line items; only line items that have a field value = "Yes" are to be included in the Word Template. I tried doing this as mentioned here: https://www.powerobjects.com/blog/2018/08/06/auto-generate-word-template-using-custom-action/ But it includes all the child records specified in the relationship chosen while making the template. I'm open to using workflows/plugins/etc. to achieve this but could not figure out how to do this. Have you done this before?
Word template includes all the related records (of chosen relationship) in the generated document. There is no configuration available for "conditional" inclusion and exclusion.
You need to go ahead with custom report to achieve this.
There is a not so recommended idea as follows: (even i don' recommend this)
1. Create another entity called "Demo Yes Line Items" - identical to demo line items
2. Using workflow or plug-in create a record in "demo Yes Line item" if "Demo Line item" is Yes (you need to cater to update scenario also)
3. Now, when you configure word template, use the "Demo Yes Line Items" entity
The above approach includes more complications and consumes system resources too (continuous data duplication, continuous workflow triggering)
It i recommended to proceed with a report.
I'm considering a second 1:N relationship to the "demo line item" entity so that I do not have to create another entity. Thanks for the help
This could work. You need to update the second relationship based on yes/no of demo lines.
