I am trying to send an email via workflow, primary entity is OPPORTUNITY, I also want to get fields from OPPORTUNITY Product, however I am not winning in selecting that from the related entities in the "Look for" dropdown list.
Any suggestions in how to tackle this?
Opportunity and Opportunity Product are related as 1:N
Inside workflow email editor, you will be able to access the parent entity's details i.e. N:1 only
This is because, there are 'N' child records (for opportunity) and which record's data to be populated in email?
That's why it is not feasible with Out of box workflow email editor
As ba365guy said, in the workflow we cannot dynamically get the field values of the child records.
Because the relationship between Opportunity and Opportunity Products is 1: N, we cannot get the field values of Opportunity Products (child) in the Opportunity workflow (parent).
Imagine this scenario, a parent record has many child records, we only say that the parent record needs to get the value of a certain child record, then the parent record cannot determine which child record to take the value from.
Conversely, a child record has only one parent record, so the child record gets the value of the parent record smoothly.
Therefore, we cannot get the field values of Opportunity Products in the workflow of Opportunity.
You need develop custom workflow activity to get specific child record fields data
Mark answer as verified, if it is feasible for you
I replay your scenario using Flow.
First, i added a new field called "related products report". Please refer to the image:
To populate this field, i created two Flows. (onCreate/onUpdate) of the opportunityProduct.
Then you can use this field in your workflow.
Maybe you can avoid creating field. And construct your email directly using Flow. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the responses guys. I ended up writing a custom workflow to get the desired results.
