I search to create field from field "account name". Indeed, I would like to keep 5 first letters of account and add one number to have code field (ex : Adidas => ADIDA1). Is It possible ?
Have a great day.
Thank you for your query.
If you need to have an auto-number field for the Account, it is not recommended to data as part of the Auto Number Sequence.
If you have data (for example name) in Auto Number, what happens when you update the Name?
It looks like a simple requirement, but it is hard to implement with out-of-the-box features.
I would recommend you to create an Auto Number field which starts with a string prefix and a seq. number.
Here are steps:
You can play with Auto-number configurations to set it as per your needs.
If you insist on the approach you mentioned, you need to use either Microsoft Flow or Plugin to achieve this.
Yes, it's possible with Power Automate.
But we need to confirm some details, such as if there are several Account Names with the same first 5 characters, then do we need to change the code to 1, 2, 3, etc. in order?
If we want to do so, then if the number of Account Name with the same first 5 characters is more than 9, what is the code of the Accounts after the 10th one?
If you don't consider these details above, you can refer to this flow.
It's a good news ! Indeed, we have some account with the same name. As you indicate, we would like to add number 1, 2, 3 for difference. Yes, numeration can we continue after 9, 10, 11, 12... No, isn't possible ?
Have a great day.
Such a flow is a bit complicated. Please refer to these screenshots.
toUpper(substring(triggerOutputs()?['body/name'], 0, 5))
For the case where the number of characters of Account Name is less than or equal to 5, I did not do 1, 2, 3 for difference, but only did it for the case where the number of characters of Account Name is greater than 5.
