Can you guide me with steps how to backup the Ax 2009 database or maybe some useful link?
I'm going to install hotfix to ax and I think it would be good if I first backup the database.
It's just a normal SQL Server (or Oracle) database, therefore you should follow the documentation of your DBMS, e.g. Backing Up and Restoring Databases in SQL Server.
If you need more specific help, please tell us what DBMS you're using, your recovery model and so on.
Also note that application code is NOT included in AX 2009 database; you have to back up application files separately.
One more question regarding application server backup. Can you guide me in it too? Do I need some script to backup files or not?
You just have to stop the AOS and copy files from the application folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\50\Application\Appl\...).
It's highly recommended to automate it, because manual backups are never frequent enough.
