Is it possible to use the new Advanced Warehouse Management features with out having to use the License Plate functionality?
I tried to do a receipt with an item to a Warehouse with the mobile Interface and it kept nagging about License plate having to be activated for the receipt location.
When you have a storage dimension group where you enable the warehouse management, the license plate is always mandatory activated. You can also notice that on this License plate the tickboxes Blank receipt allowed and Blank issue allowed are enabled and cannot be changed. So in fact it should be possible to leave it empty.
The setting to have this License plate mandatory or not is on the Location profiles. You can disable the tick box 'Use license plate tracking'. Then it should be possible to do a transaction without the license plate.
I have tested it using an outbound baydoor. The demo database contains a Location profile called 'Non LPCOntrolled Recv Location'.
So as a conclusion: yes it is possible to not specify the license plate. Also the mobile device uses this logic.
I think the demo data that Andre pointed out may actually be bad demo data.
With the new Advanced Warehouse Management in R3, your Default Receipt Location needs to be license plate controlled. One way to get around what you're trying to do is to auto-generate the license plate during the receive process by using the "Generate License Plate" checkbox on your Mobile Device Menu Item.
Thanks for your insights. I think you are more experienced with the WMS module. I think it is a common scenario that products are received and put into a staging area without any pallet/license plate. After a check you put them on a license plate and do the pick and put into the warehouse location.
Can you tell us if this is not possible, not supported or not recommended? Do you know why the demo data does contain this setting?
I can't speak to the demo data, but the new WMS module does not allow you to "stage" your inventory using Work without a license plate. When receiving the inventory you must assign a license plate which is then used throughout the Work. If the final Putaway location is non-LP controlled the license plate will be removed when the user puts the inventory in that final location.
But the solution will ask about this number all the time when picking up the goods afterwards. How are we get around that?
this topic is also quite interesting for me because our company is thinking about an upgrade next year from AX2009 to AX2012 R3.
In our current process goods arrive without a pallet number (= license plate). After identifying and posting the whole quantity as item arrival journal we are using a movement journal to transfer the quantity to pallet numbers.
On some items we don't have a pallet number on arrival, there is done a manual picking to a pallet later.
For my understanding we can't continue with that process and the new WMS module. Right?
ok the workaround, but it means that I have inventory with LP populated.
When I will move those items, I have the request to specify the auto LP number created previously.
A customer that does not manage LP, b.i. with a label, cannot afford to use this flow --> cannot use R3 WMS.
There are ways to do this in the new module.
One way to accomplish this would be to use auto-generated LP numbers (an RF menu item config) but make you final Put location be to a non-LP location. This means that when the users executes the Work and puts the inventory away, the LP will disappear from the inventory. You can then do your movement as you do today (via full screen or RF) and move that inventory to a new LP controlled location and assign the final LP.
Hi andrè I tried creating a bulp nolcation not LP lamnaged; but in "put work" I get this error:
Location BULKNOLP01 failed because the final put location for sales order work must either be a packing station location profile or final shipping location type.
I was able to use the Generate LP to do the purchase order receipt and am trying to do a Put Away to a non-LP location. I am still receiving a message indicating that I can't put a LP receipt in a non-LP location. I assuming that I am missing something simple but not sure what.
Your Receipt and user locations must be LP controled.
you may want to use receive and putaway (1 step instead of two steps as workaround)Note i haven't tried this method.Scenario: Rec location is LP controlled.Stage location is Non LP controlled.Storage location is LP/Non LP doesnt matter.Location directive the default received is Rec. Then directed it to Stage location.There is work type purchase receive and put away in work menu item.Set that to create Auto LP when you receive the item. But when you put the stage it won't ask you LP anymore because it continues process.

The method used (receive or receive and put away) does not matter. The receiving location (dock not the put away locations) has to be LP controlled. The location assigned to the user has to be LP controlled as well. The locations you define for put away do not have to be LP controlled. If the location defined for open areas such receiving, staging and packing were not LP tracked, it would be pretty messy and tedious to process. The LP tracking at those locations allows user to not have to worry about paperwork. All the needed information is linked via the LP. I understand the issue with having to print LP labels but I think the benefit far outweighs the inconvenience.
I am getting error "The product dimensions do not exist on the purchase order" while purchase receipt when put location is non license plate control. Please help.

It is a check box under Location profile master.
Use license plate tracking check box is available under Location profile for making LP mandatory for a location attached with Location profile.
Generate License plate checkbox available on Mobile device menu item e.g. Purchase receiving menu item. It help auto generate LP based on number sequence defined on parameter form.
Navigation path- Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device > Mobile device menu item.
The setup is under mobile device menu item
(Warehouse management>>Setup>>mobile device>>mobile device menu item). There is Tick mark field "Generate License Plate"
