I have the following problem:
I cannot find where a table field has been written. My situation is that I get a table with differenet records - sometimes the field is filled and sometimes not. In order to look into it, I want to go to the place, where the field is written (or gets its value).
I tried going to the field -> AddIns -> Cross Reference -> Where used but at this path I see only where it is been read. There are no entries with write.
I also tried to look into the insert()-Method of the table and some methods of the form I am in. But the field is not noted there either.
I am talking about a customized field, so I guess no name need to be mentioned here.
Do you have any idea where else I can look ? I am debugging all afternoon now, and still no clue.
Cross References is where you will find this, but you need to build your cross references dataset first.
Open dev environment and go to Tools>Cross-reference>Periodic>Update
Check "update all" and click OK.
4 to 15 hours later you should have your cross references built and you'll be able to tell everywhere where that field is referenced.
It is possible that the cross reference is not up to date. You can update it to see if you then get some write references.
As it is customized, is there any description how this should work? Will the field be filled manually, automated caused by another update or a combination? Are you sure there should be a method filling a value in this field or was everything filled manually where a value exists?
Can't you just search the whole AOT for this custom field? Do you have a scenario where this field is updated? If so, you should be able to debug it (override update method if not present). If you still don't have a suspect you could try to add the field to the database log to see who / what makes the change.
If nothing works, call it a day and have a great weekend ;).
Thank you Kyle!
I startet updating my references yesterday, I hope that solves my problem. I will reply after that if it helped
Thank you all for your suggestions, that one is also a good one, although I did search for a table in some AOT nodes.
Thank you all.
Can you provide the table name if it is not custom.. that might give us some idea
well the table name is VendTransOpen.
I updated the references as was suggested above, but I still get only "read" references on my field :( I also searched for my field in the whole AOT.
I still don't see where my field has been written. I mean there are classes that insert a new record in the VendTransOpen or update some fields, but not what I am looking for!
Does anyone have some ideas on this?
Do you have a scenario where this field is updated? Does it happen a lot (if so, you could use databaselog to check who updates it)?
I have tried to enter the database log but it didnot work either. I added my table and table field to the database log, and then I opened the database log in Queries, pushed "update" several times. Either I dont have access or it is not setup on my system.
