I got a requirement to export the customization to the system from first day. I follow this link https://technologyblog.rsmus.com/microsoft/dynamics-365-for-finance-and-supply-chain/microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-quick-trick-generating-list-aot-changes-utilizing-project-filter/ to achieve my requirement. But from last 2 days my system is busy and not working. On Project Filter form i just select "Append" and "Per User" and click ok. After that the system is busy, why it really take enough time.
It seems you're neither exporting from nor importing to anything, but you're trying to create a project. You didn't mention using any filter, therefore you seem to be generating a project every single object in the system, which is both resource intensive and useless.
Could you please tell us what are you trying to achieve? For example, if your goal is moving customizations to another environment, you should move the model, not to create a project. Or if you want to back up your changes, you shouldn't be generating any project either - you should use a version control system.
Thanks for your reply, Martin "Goshoom" Dráb,
As i gave link in my post the above mention link i am following to take all customization from starting date to our system. If you have any good way please tell me in detail or give me link to follow.
But for what purpose do you want "to take all customization from starting date"? It's useless by itself; you must want it for something, such as those two purposes I mentioned above. As you see, you need different approach in different cases (e.g. exporting/import a model or using a version control system), therefore we can't tell you what exactly you should do until you tell us what you want to achieve.
Also, how do you define the starting date?
The purpose is that my IT director wants this, why he wants this, i didn't ask him ?? but he said to take all customization from the system. It would be better to export it to excel sheet. If not take another way but he need this.
Thanks for your reply,
This was my fault i forget to add layer, my issue is resolved by adding layer pressing select button.
Yes, I said it took time because you didn't use any filter.
I always thought that understanding business requirements is a good idea, because how do you want to implement something if you don't know what it is? For instance, "to take" may mean many things.
Note you've merely merely generated a project with all customizations in the given layer. It didn't export anything, it doesn't show which changes you've done (e.g. you'll get a table with 100 fields and 50 methods, while only of the field is yours), it doesn't contain any information about when changes were done, you may have changes in multiple layers (in that case, you didn't meet the requirements), you could have simply create a project from a model (which is easier and faster), and so on. Quite a few things to consider...
If you want information about what was done, the best source of information is the version control system. If you're not using any, you've just identified a huge problem that you should fix ASAP. You won't be able reconstruct details of previous customizations (e.g. you could have know who changed any line of code, when and why), but you'll start collecting that for new changes. You'll also be able to compare versions, roll back versions if needed, you won't risk losing any changes anymore and so on.
Please could you confirm it, this is the tool you are talking about ??
Check The above link, this what you talking about ??
The links is not about a specific version control system, but it explains which ones can be used with AX 2012. In practice, you choices are only TFS (Azure DevOps) and MorphX VCS.
TFS / Azure DevOps is much more powerfull, but it's more complicated to set up.
