Quality Management feature in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations takes the integration of quality orders and advanced warehousing to a whole new level. It allows for seamless handling of test samples, ensuring they are moved to dedicated locations for quality inspection.
Once the quality testing is completed, the system automatically moves the test samples to a location that aligns with the outcome of the quality test and the evaluation of the quality order. This enhancement not only ensures better inventory management but also mirrors real-world processes more closely.
This setup mimics real-world scenarios, where quality inspections are conducted in designated areas, and non-conforming products are isolated to avoid disruptions in operations.
Prerequisite:
- ‘Enable quality order for warehouse process’ flag on warehouse master.
2. Quality Association:
Here are some key points to consider:
A) Quality Order Creation:
a. A quality order is created only after the registration of the purchase order, i.e., when the purchase order is received using a handheld device.
b. It does not support other scenarios, such as the normal quality order process, where the quality order is created after the product receipt.
B) Applicable Warehouse Type:
a. Select ‘Quality management for warehouse processes only’.
b. Quality orders for warehouse processes will only include warehouses with the Quality order for warehouse processes parameter enabled.
c. If the type is set to "All," the quality order functionality for warehouse processes will not be available in the quality association.
C) Item Sampling:
a. Full blocking (holding the full quantity of the reference line, such as the purchase order line, during inspection) is not supported. Instead, you can opt for percentage or fixed quantity sampling.
Note: This can be challenging since customers often expect full blocking of quantities during the quality process. Customization is required to meet this expectation.
D) Quarantine Orders:
a. Quarantine orders are part of the Quarantine Management functionality, which is largely unsupported by WMS.
3. Work template for Quality Order Sampling:
4. Location directive of type – Quality Item sampling. The work type is always = Put.
5. Work Template for Quality Order.
6. Location Directive for type Quality Order. We need to have two location directives. One is for Pass and another is for Fail.
Similarly for quality order pass-
Note- The creation of a mobile device menu item is not covered in this post. This is self-explanatory.
Process:
1. Create a Purchase Order:
2. Receive the Purchase Order using handheld device-
3. Two warehouse works generated. One is to move samples to quality locations for testing, and another is to move the rest of the quantities to dedicated warehouse locations.
Note – Unless we complete the quality sampling work, we can’t validate or complete the quality order process.
4. Complete the Quality Item sampling work and pass the quality order. Quality order work generated to move sample quantity to dedicated warehouse location.
5. We create another purchase order and fail the quality order.
How to reverse the quality order process after it has been passed or failed will be discussed in the next blog.
Happy Leaning!!
