In this blog post I wanted to collect some features of the Excel Add-in that I have found very useful in some occasions, hoping that they will be helpful to you too.
Tip #1: The end of the never-ending loading, the “Do not refresh on open” flag
One of the main show-stoppers for users at the beginning is that they open the Excel add-in and the Excel add-in just starts loading all the data and never finishes. Well, there is a quick fix for that, that consists in doing the following:
Once you download the Excel in “Open from Excel”, go to the settings,
open the “Data connector” tab and untick the “Refresh on open” flag:
Then save the Excel, close and reopen it and voila: no more never-ending refreshes. What you can do then is to use the filters to prefilter only the data relevant to you:
Tip #2: Quick cross-company inquiries
Have you ever noticed that most of the time the Excel Add-in is opened filtered by legal entity?
Well, if you remove that filter, click done and then refresh when opening the Excel, you will end up with a list of the transactions/master data across all the legal entities:
In some table the Company has to be added, in that case you just click on “Design” and you add the DataAreaId field:
This is sometimes helpful if you want to do quick inquiries without setting up Power BI, Electronic reports and such things.
That’s all folks, see you next time!
