Post#28: Defaulting Financial Dimensions from Main Accounts

In AX2012 R3 Financial dimensions can be applied as defaults to the following to speed up manual entry:

1. Journals (most but not all e.g. type Allocation )
2. Vendor
3. Customer
4. Fixed Asset Value models
5. Main Account

But Main account dimension defaulting is different from the others in the sense that it has the option to override any manual input if required. We can see this in more detail later.

Main account financial dimensions can only be defaulted by company. So if you need the same value defaulted and you have 10 companies you would need to setup the same for all 10 companies individually. AX does this due to the fact that you could have different Chart of accounts for each entity.

Please follow the steps below to setup default financial dimensions on Main accounts:

a. Edit any Main account in “General Ledger–>Common–>Main Account”
b. Select the “select the level of main account to display” drop down and select “Companies” option.
c. Click on the Green add button to select the entity you want to default the financial dimensions for.
d. Then select the required dimensions

Any financial dimensions entered will be the default value in the ledger when you select this main account either as main or offset. Additionally there are two options named either fixed vale or not fixed value these decide the level of control we want to set, see below for more details.

If Fixed value: This will enforce the posting for the journal for the main account to only go with the default financial dimension. This means that even if the user changes the default value to another value while posting the system will still post to the defaulted value and not the user modified value.

If Not Fixed: If the user changes the default value to another value while posting it will post to the user modified value.
