Basic authentication is being deprecated, is your Microsoft Dynamics GP Exchange email ready?

We are approximately a month away from the deprecation of Basic authentication in Exchange Online/Office 365. This becomes permanent on October 1, 2022 and will cause our existing Exchange emailing in Microsoft Dynamics GP to fail.

We want to send a reminder with all the information that will help you begin to use Modern Authentication, which is going to be required, in order to continue using Exchange email in the Dynamics GP application.

>Multi-Factor Authentication

The Modern Authentication was added to Dynamics GP in the October 2020 release / 18.3.1173, so if you're on that version of Dynamics GP currently or later, you can implement this functionality. However, we do recommend upgrading to the latest release of the application as there have been many items fixed around Modern Authentication.

If you are not using Modern Authentication after Oct. 1, 2022, users will begin receiving ‘Login Failed’ messages when they enter their Exchange credentials to authenticate when attempting to email or use email setup in the Dynamics GP application. Once this occurs, there is no other work-around or fix that will be available. This excludes Exchange on-prem, if you are using that.

Any further information regarding email in Microsoft Dynamics GP can be found in our email troubleshooting document at this link:

If you have issues setting up Modern Authentication, specifically getting errors when attempting to save the changes and then enter your account for Azure to synch Dynamics GP with the Client ID, the following blog also has some good troubleshooting information in it:

If you have any questions, please let us know. We want to make sure everyone is prepared for this upcoming change and not caught with email not working in Dynamics GP.

PaulaY - I believe it can be any GP account (with access to the Email Setup window). After pasting the App ID into the email setup window, a modern authentication dialog box opens for the first-time login. This is the one that needs an Azure tenant admin's credentials. When processing actual transactions later the Azure tenant admin is not necessary.

I need some clarification to something that I have read or heard regarding MFA setup within GP. I'm not sure what this means: Only the very first user who logs into the GP MFA window when you first set it up in Company E-mail Settings needs to be an admin from your Azure tenant. This is because that process is authorizing GP to access the Azure App Registration. After that the non-admin users can work just fine. Does this mean this first user needs to sign onto the GP app server and then log onto GP as themselves, or log on as SA?
