What to Expect in the Release of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018

What if you could give your Microsoft Dynamics GP software a brain?

That’s the direction that the Microsoft Dynamics development teams are taking with all of their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) products. The good news is that the upcoming October 1st release of Dynamics GP 2018 will have a new brain, courtesy of what’s called the Intelligent Edge.

In our recent blog post, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018: What’s Coming Your Way on October 1st?, we delved into several of the new features and functionality that are included in the Dynamics GP release. We even included a great video that you can watch (for 11 minutes) to view a roundup of the GP 2018 enhancements. And there’s plenty to look at!

So in this blog, we’re going to focus on the Intelligent Edge functionality and how it gives your Microsoft Dynamics GP software a brain.

Microsoft continues to invest heavily in the intelligent cloud, bringing business intelligence, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and numerous other cloud productivity and analytics tools to the marketplace. Until now, customers using on-premises solutions haven’t been able to easily take advantage of these services.

That changes with the new Dynamics GP release which will give you the ability to connect your on-premises Dynamics GP solution to the intelligent cloud through Dynamics 365 Business Central and get access to Power BI, Microsoft Flow, PowerApps, Machine Learning, and more.

With the Intelligent Edge, you can seamlessly connect your on-premises solution to an instance of our intelligent cloud through Business Central. When the connection is made, we securely replicate your on-premises data to the intelligent cloud. You simply decide which companies you want to replicate (all if you choose), and then, within the main pages of your on-premises solution, we’ll deliver back actionable analysis and content. The intelligent cloud leverages solutions such as Power BI, PowerApps, Flow, and AI to provide insight and actionable messages enabling your business to run even better.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the key applications included in the Intelligent Edge.

Power BI is a business analytics solution that lets you visualize your data, share insights across your organization, and connect to hundreds of data sources. It brings your data to life with live dashboards and reports.

PowerApps allow you to build apps fast with a point-and-click approach to app design. You can choose from a large selection of templates or start from a blank canvas. And you can easily connect your app to data and use Excel-like expressions to add logic.

Flow gives you the ability to create automated workflows between your favorite apps and services to get notifications, synchronize files, collect data, and more.

Machine Learning analyses your data and provides recommendations to help your business respond appropriately and intelligently on the basis of past experiences.

It’s hard to even fathom how much a brain could bring to your Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP software, how your company will benefit, or how the Intelligent Edge will help your company gain and maintain a competitive edge. It’s a true game changer. And for that reason alone, if you’ve delayed upgrading your GP system for far too long, now is the time to contact your friends at Tidestone Solutions.
