Expanded AI Model Options in Copilot

Microsoft 365 Copilot recently got even smarter. Microsoft announced that Copilot will now let users choose Anthropic’s Claude AI models in addition to the existing OpenAI GPT models. Claude (including Claude Sonnet 4 and Opus 4.1) joins Copilot’s toolkit in the built-in Researcher agent and in Copilot Studio, giving businesses flexibility to use Anthropic models alongside GPT. In practice, this means you can still rely on GPT by default but now have the option to switch to Claude’s advanced reasoning when it fits your needs.

This new multi-model approach means Copilot users – especially teams handling reports, strategy, or data analysis – can pick the AI “brain” best suited to the job. For example, Copilot’s Researcher agent (a dedicated AI assistant for deep research) can now be powered by either GPT or Claude Opus 4.1. Whether you’re building a go-to-market plan, analyzing trends, or compiling a report, Microsoft’s interface lets you select your preferred model to power in-depth work. In other words, if Claude yields better results on a particular project, you can try it just as easily as using GPT.

The Microsoft 365 Copilot Researcher interface now shows a Try Claude button in Chat. Once enabled from the admin center, any Copilot-licensed user will see the Try Claude option when they open the Copilot app and select Researcher. To use Claude, just click Try Claude – the Researcher agent will use a Claude model for that session. When the session ends or you close Copilot, it automatically reverts to the default GPT model.
