Business Central 2026 Release Wave 1 (BC28): Add the Description 2 Fields

With this update, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central introduces an enhancement that improves visibility and flexibility when working with manufacturing and planning data.
The Description 2 field is now available for personalization on several additional pages. This allows users to add extra descriptive information alongside the primary description, providing better context and clarity when managing production and planning records.

Why This Feature Matters

In many business scenarios, the Description field alone may not be sufficient to fully explain an item, routing step, or component. The Description 2 field provides an additional line of detail that can be used to store:
  • Extra product information
  • Internal notes for planners or production teams
  • Additional specifications or references
  • Clarifications for routing or tasks
This enhancement helps teams better understand manufacturing data without needing to open additional pages or maintain external notes.

How to Use Description 2 in the Application

Users can easily add this field through page personalization:
  1. Open the relevant page (for example, Production BOM Lines).
  2. Select Settings → Personalize.
  3. Choose + Field.
  4. Search for Description 2.
  5. Drag it to the desired position on the page.
Once added, users can enter additional descriptive details to enhance record clarity.
