Upgrading Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Sandbox Versions

Welcome to my next blog on product version upgrade for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations sandbox

Application Version upgrade has two aspects, as follows

1: Service Upgrade- Suppose an environment is 10.0.22, then the next version is 10.0.23, 10.0.24, thus, upgrade to the next version called service upgrade

2: Binary Upgrade – Suppose an environment is 10.0.22, then within this version Microsoft releases BUG fixes by a patch/hotfix, thus upgrade to that patch called binary upgrade, patches are multiple.

Let’s explore how we can proceed with the upgrades

How to steps

Login to LCS and enter to the project->>> Navigate to “ENVIORMENTS” section right side of the screen

Select any environments you want to upgrade and click on “full details”

Now Navigate to the “Available Updates” Tab in the form

In this form, we can see the next available updates (Binary and service upgrade both we can see)

Now, it is up to organization release management decision, when and which version they want to upgrade

For this example, we shall select the “New Release” 10.0.24 version and will click on “View Update”

The below form will open, from here we can see the accumulated BUG fixes in this version

Click “Save package” option

A new form will open, here “select all”->>> save package

A pop up will appear, here we need to add the name of this package and description->> save package->> It will load for some time around 10-15 minutes->> Click on Done

Once the package is created, this will appear into Asset Library

Navigate to Asset Library from LCS options and make sure the saved package is validated by system, note- this takes at least 1 hour to get validated

Steps to go to asset library as follows

Navigate to Software deployable package tab- here we can see our saved package

Now we are ready to go ahead and deploy this package to our respective environments

Navigate to Environment details page in LCS, and select the environment->> Full details

The new form will open->> Now from maintain action pane->> Select “Apply Updates”

 Now in the new form will appear->> Here give a name to the deployment package->> Select the package which we have saved in our last steps->> Now apply

Now the service operations will start, system will show the percentage of the progress, it can take more than hour to complete the deployment

When the servicing is completed, the system will be upgraded to the next version

Note- This is possible, sometime the upgrade can be failed due to some error, for these cases, we need to look for the error reason and solve the same then resume the deployment

After the 100% progress, now system is upgraded to the new version, to check the same, we can check from LCS and D365 both

Navigate to D365->> from the help (?) option->> about->> version  details are shown
