Scribe Adapter for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 and Migrating CRM 4.0 to CRM Online 2013

Frank Lee Profile Picture Frank Lee 4,617

Scribe Software has released the Scribe Adapter for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 5.5 on November 1st, 2013.  This latest version of the Microsoft CRM Adapter supports Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 or 2011 / 2013 and for all three deployment options – Online, On-Premises and Partner Hosted (IFD).  Scribe Software offers an excellent data integration and data migration tool for Microsoft CRM.

I’m currently using this tool to help a customer migrate their Microsoft CRM 4.0 On-Premises to CRM Online 2013.  I’m able to use the latest Scribe Insight 7.6.2 with the Scribe Adapter for Dynamics CRM 5.5 to connect to both the Microsoft CRM 4.0 On-Premises and to the latest Microsoft CRM Online 2013 with ease.  Yay!

Here is an interested note on migrating Microsoft Dynamics CRM file attachments.  There are two types of Microsoft CRM file attachments:

  • Regular Attachments – these are any files attached to CRM entity records except for the CRM Email Activity entity.  There is a Scribe CRM adapter data object “annotation” that will handle these types of files.
  • Email Attachments – for any files attached within the CRM Email Activity record.  There is a Scribe CRM adapter data object “activitymimeattachment” to take care of these types of file attachments.

Since the CRM 4.0 On-Premises and the Microsoft CRM Online 2013 data schema are very similar – we can map most of the entity fields to each other.  However, for file attachments – here are the proper field mappings:

  • CRM 4.0 annotation filename or activitymimeattachment filename (Source) maps to CRM Online 2013 annotation or activitymimeattachment vfAttachmentFileName (Target)
  • CRM 4.0 annotation documentbody or activitymimeattachment body (Source) maps to CRM Online 2013 annotation or activitymimeattachment vfAttachment (Target)
