Derived dimensions: A quick demonstration

For this session in a mini-series about Financial Dimensions and allocations, I wanted to illustrate a quick example of the use of Derived dimensions.
Derived financial dimensions allows you to associate a fix dimension (derived) to another financial dimension.
For example, if the originating dimension is Business Unit 001, and you have defined a derived financial dimension Department 025 as you derived dimension, then every time a user selects business units 001, the Department 025 will be automatically selected.
You can read more about the topic in our Docs pages here:
Financial dimensions - Finance | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Docs
Below, is a quick demonstration of the functionality.

Hi Kennet, I am looking to make use of derived dimensions. As I had an issue I ended up here and appreciated your explanation. I set up a derived dimension (4 derived fin dim values), I set "Prevent changes to Derived value" to NO and also did not mark "Replace existing dimension values with existing values". When I then create a free text invoice and I enter the financial dimension, the derived dimensions are filled as set, except for one value which was already on the free text invoice -populated from the customer master-. This is also what I want (derived value, but not if value is already popluated from item or cusotmer master). When I then post the free text invoice the value for the derived financial dimension is posted as per derived dimension set up and not as per the value on the free text invoice. This is not what I expected. 1 I find it strange that the posting is different than free text invoice data is filled 2 Is there something in the set up I should change? 3 Is my aim that when customer or item master already have a value for the derived dimension that this value will remain and be posted achieavable on for instance a free text invoice or a sales order invoice? Many thanks in advance if you could have a look at my questions Regards, René Waterham
