NAV 2015 on Windows 10 installation fatal error

Hi,

in this blog post I will describe how to solve problem with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 Build 42222 (further in text NAV) installation on Windows 10.

Case: I finally got Windows 10 Enterprise build 10240 (RTM) and I started to NAV. And I choose custom installation option and choose everything (include web server and help server) except demo database and installation started. After a few moments “bam” I got error Microsoft IIS URL Rewrite Module (64 bit) Fatal error during installation. From the first I knew that cause is web server or help server because other “tiers” (RTC, Service, Db) works perfectly.

Solution: Because IIS is used for help server and web server we need to stop IIS service if it is started or close IIS manager it is open. Then we need to go to regedit and find location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp and in InetStp find key MajorVersion. On MajorVersion we will see that value data is a in hexadecimal which is same as 10 in decimal. To solve problem we need to put this value to 9 in decimal.

After that we can install IIS URL Rewrite Module (rewrite_2.0_rtw_x64) from Prerequisites folder in NAV installation media.

When installation is done it is recommended to switch back value of MajorVersion key to 10 (decimal) or a in hexadecimal, and then we can install web server and help server together with other NAV components.

That’s all for this blog post.

Cheers,

Renato.
