Enhancing Warehouse Efficiency with the Set Breakbulk Filter in Business Central

Introduction:
Warehouse operations often face complexities in picking processes due to the various units of measurement used for products. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central introduces a handy feature, "Set Breakbulk Filter," that helps warehouse staff streamline their picking process by reducing unnecessary lines in pick lists.

What is the Set Breakbulk Filter?
This feature is specifically part of the warehouse shipment process and comes into play when creating a pick list.

Purpose:
The Set Breakbulk Filter aims to simplify pick lists by reducing the number of pick lines displayed to warehouse staff. This feature makes it easier for them to focus on picking the required items efficiently.

How Does it Work?
When the filter is enabled, intermediate break-bulk lines are hidden if a larger unit can be fully converted into smaller units. For instance, a larger quantity like a pallet could be broken down into smaller units, such as boxes. If the boxes can fulfill the pick request, the pick list will not display intermediate pallet lines.

Scenario:

Imagine a warehouse where you store products in both pallets and boxes:

  • Pallet: Contains 100 boxes each.
  • Box: Holds 10 items.

Without Breakbulk Filter:

You receive an order to pick 200 items. Here's how the process might look:

  1. The system shows multiple lines on the pick list:

    • One line showing 2 pallets (each pallet contains 100 boxes, which will then be opened).
    • One line showing 20 boxes directly.
  2. This can create confusion for the warehouse worker because it includes intermediate steps that aren't necessary when the required items can be picked from a single larger source.

With Breakbulk Filter Enabled:

With the filter enabled, the process would simplify:

  1. The system recognizes that it can fulfill the entire order from 20 boxes.
  2. The pick list generated only includes the lines showing the 20 boxes to pick.

The "Set Breakbulk Filter" feature in Business Central is a useful tool that optimizes the picking process by reducing clutter in pick lists. By focusing only on the necessary units to be picked, this feature enhances efficiency and improves the overall experience for warehouse staff.
