How to start and access your new Talent environment

Malinm85 Profile Picture Malinm85 User Group Leader

In Microsoft’s community I often see people having trouble with getting access to Core, and don’t know what to do or where to set it up, that’s why I wrote this blogpost.

The first thing you have to do is to buy the licenses, if you don’t know how to do that you can contact me and I’ll help you. If you already have the licenses, but can’t follow the steps below, please contact Microsoft support.

The second thing to do is to be sure you are a global administrator and then sign in to Microsoft Dynamics Lifecycle Services (LCS), from there you create a new Talent project and a new environment.

Let’s go thru the steps.

1. Create an LCS project

You must create a LCS project to to use LCS to manage your Talent environments..

  1. Sign in to LCS by using the account that you used to subscribe to Talent.
    lcs start
  2. Select the plus sign (+) to create a project.

  3. Select Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Talent as the product name, product version and methodology.
    lcs create project
  4. Select Create.

Now you created the project, but the environment isn’t created, you still have to provision the project.

2. Provision a Talent project

After you’ve created an LCS project, you can provision Talent into an environment.

  1. Choose your LCS project, scroll right and select the Talent App Management tile under “More tools”.

2. Talent is always provisioned into a Microsoft PowerApps environment, to view environments or to create new ones, you need to have the PowerApps P2 license.

There are three different environments to be aware of;

  • The new environment you are using for your production
  • The default environment, which Microsoft recommends you do not use
  • The trial-environment which is deleted after 60 days

3. Select Add, and then select the environment to provision Talent into.
lcs add new environment

If you are using the system for demo’s or training for your customers, I recommend that you include the demo data. If you are using the system as an production environment you shouldn’t include the demo data.

4. You now get a question if you want to agree to the terms and begin deployment, click Yes.

5. Now your new environment is starting to provision, when the provisioning is ready, the new environment will have a deployment status of Deployed and your environment is ready to use. This process typically takes just a few minutes. If the provisioning process is unsuccessful, you must contact Support.

6. Select Log on to Talent to use your new environment.

Now you have created and provisioned the environment, and now you have access to the environment, but you alone. The last thing you have to do is to grant access to the environment to other users.

3. Grant access to the environment

The highsteps are:

1. Give the users license in O365

2. Add users to Core HR (system administration – users) and assign roles

If you are using Azure Active Directory, you can import all the users to the system by using “Import users”

3. You must launch Attract and Onboard application to complete the initialization så that the other users get access.

4. Train the users so that they know what to do when they get access!

PS; When a user access the system for the first time, make sure that they are on the correct environment, the next time they access they will automatically access the last accessed environment.
