In LCS you will find two types of updates:
- Quality update
- Service update
A quality update is a cumulative, roll-up build that contains fixes for known issues that are specific to the service update. There will be not quality updates available for any version that’s older than 2 versions of the current service update.
A service update is a cumulative, roll-up build that contains new features, functionality - in other words is a new release.
In this blog post I will show you how to apply a Quality update to a Cloud-hosted (Tier 1) environment.
Firsts lest check the version of the environment in the D365 portal:
Now go to the LCS environment page, scroll down to the Available updates section. You will see that you have a Quality update. Click on View update
On the Binary update page select Save package
To apply the updates, you need to save the package to the Assets Library. Click on Save package
Write a name and a description and click on Save package
Check if you can see the package on the Asset Library:
Go back to the environment page and select Maintain and Apply updates
Select the package that you created on the previous steps:
As you can see, the environment state change to Queued:
After a couple of minutes, the environment state will change to Servicing. This is an indication that the update process started. The process has 69 steps and will take about 2 hours:
Finally go back to D365 portal and check the version again. You will see that the product version and platform version was updated:
If you go back to LCS, your environment is up-to-date.
