Analyzing Licensing Data for the Dynamics ERP

There are several ways to extract licensing data from the Dynamics ERP system. You can investigate the system directly, or you can write SQL queries to extract the data (obviously not on the production system).

A new method for analyzing licensing data, along with security role information, is through the Power Platform.

In the Power Platform, under the "Licensing" section, Microsoft has added several license summary reports. If you select the "Finance and Operations" tab and move to the right-hand side of the screen, you'll find the "Export to CSV" button.

Once the file is ready for download, you can use the data in the file for analysis. The file provides information on each environment, user, security role, and license. It also indicates which licenses are required, using the column named "RequiredUserLicenseQuantity." Any value of 1 in this column indicates the need to purchase a license.

At this point, Microsoft refreshes the data every 24 hours, and you can also see when the last refresh occurred.
