Procedure to resolve error while installation of Dynamics NAV

Tina Menezes Profile Picture Tina Menezes 2,582

Introduction:

Recently I tried installing Dynamics NAV 2018 on the server which already had another version of Dynamics NAV installed previously. But at the end an error appeared due to which the installation of NAV 2018 was not successful.

The error that appeared is as given below:

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Build 19394

Error Report

Server

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server Components

Fatal error during installation.

The service ‘Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server [DynamicsNAV110]’ (MicrosoftDynamicsNavServer$DynamicsNAV110) failed to start. This can be caused by one of several issues. For example, the password for the account that runs the service may be incorrect, or there could be a conflict in port sharing for the port settings for the service, or you have specified that the port for the server should be opened in the Windows firewall even though the Windows firewall is not enabled on the computer. For more information, see the event viewer.

Due to this error, while accessing the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Administration, none of the server instances were visible.

Procedure to resolve the error:

  1. Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018 gets installed by default with the following port numbers:
  • Client Services: 7046
  • SOAP Services: 7047
  • OData Services: 7048
  • Management Services: 7045
  1. On checking further I realized that the previous version of Dynamics NAV was also installed with the same port numbers as mentioned in Point: 1 and hence this was creating a conflict when NAV 2018 was being installed and the installation wasn’t successful.
  2. Through the Dynamics NAV administration, it was not possible to check and change the port numbers of the previous NAV version as the server instances were not visible in Dynamics NAV administration.

Hence I had to navigate to the CustomSettings.config file in the following location:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\71\Service

Change the port numbers in the CustomSettings.config file as shown below and save the file.

Once this was done, I uninstalled Dynamics NAV 2018 and re-installed it again. Dynamics NAV 2018 installed successfully this time and also the NAV server instance was visible in the NAV Administration and the port numbers with which it installed as mentioned in Point 1 . Hence while installation of any version of  Dynamics NAV, always ensure that there shouldn’t be any conflict between the port numbers of any prior installed Dynamics NAV version with the new NAV setup which is being installed.

Thank you.
