10 years of blogging - moving time...
October 27th 2008 was the date on which I wrote my first blog post on https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/freddyk.
Since then - I have written 123 blog post - very close to one blog post a month. Taking into consideration that I had a few years without any blog posts, that isn't too bad and now - my blog is moved to this new address https://community.dynamics.com/business/b/freddysblog.
In the beginning...
In the beginning my blog contained a lot of information about the 3 Tier architecture and the possibilities that came with that.
Examples like Edit In Excel, Search, Search and the very first Virtual Earth integration were part of the early blogs, but also Windows Vista Gadgets like this:
Totally forgot about that:-)
With the release of NAV 2009 SP1, we shipped client extensibility and we could do stuff like this:
Of course these blog posts doesn't really add any value and they will be removed from this "new" blog and only be on the msdn blog as long as it exists.
Web Services
In 2010/11, I did a series called Connecting to NAV Web Services from... - and showcased how to connect to NAV Web Services from various programming languages/devices I could find, including Java, Javascript, Silverlight, PHP and... - even WIndows Mobile 6:
Also that doesn't make much sense to carry on as the primary challenges was about authentication.
BTW. The blog post on connecting to NAV Web Services from PHP is the blog post with most views - around 100.000 views.
Servicebus
In 2011 the Servicebus on Azure was shipped and I created a series of blog posts on how to use the Servicebus including this image:
These blog posts included information about how to create a local proxy for connecting to Web Services on an on-prem installed NAV Server without opening firewall ports and struggling with IP addresses and other things.
A lot of this info is actually still valid.
The Azure Gallery Image
After a few years without blogging, I restarted my blogging effort with the NAV image in the Azure Gallery and performance testing.
One of the blog posts in this period was the post known as the loaded potato, describing how to spin up an Azure VM using the Azure Gallery Image and setting up all possible integrtions from this...
The Azure Gallery Image has been replaced by Docker containers on Azure VMs. The new URL http://aka.ms/getnav almost have the same functionality and the performance testing posts should still be good.
Docker, Containers, NavContainerHelper and Modern Dev.
Today, my blog is mostly about Docker and modern dev.
On one side, describing how I would approach extension development if I was a partner, introducing the stairway to heaven on March 31, 2017
Still very relevant if you ask me again.-)
And later, a lot of blog posts on how to use Docker for running NAV or Business Central.
Next series of blog posts will be about Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) for team based extension development using Azure DevOps and who knows where the future takes me and my blog...
Welcome to my new blog...
Thanks for reading
Stay tuned
