[How to] Fixed Asset Acquisition Multiple times in MSD365 FO
Dear Dynamics 365 Lovers,
By god’s grace I wrote this article to describe how a fixed asset can be acquired multiple times in Dynamics 365 FO.
It’s a common practice for companies to make some adjustment and correct the asset values without reversing the acquisition, Dynamics 365 FO gives the privilege to the accountant to post multiple acquisitions as an when required
Business Scenarios
There are many scenarios and I tried to keep it simple and most common approach from business
- Accountant made some mistake and acquired asset with low amount, and they prefer not to reverse the transaction and instead make another acquisition for the same asset.
- Sometime business decided to make another acquisition due to valuation of the same asset.
Without Configuration system does not allow to achieve this
Generally, if more than one time Acquisition is posted, system gives the error and it does not allow to post further acquisition if the asset is already acquired.
See below Fixed Asset Build000000001 is already acquired with 5000 value, and we shall try to acquire this one more time with more 500 to make it 5500
Now system is not allowing if we are making one more acquisition journal from Fixed Asset journal
It says “Posting results for journal batch number JLB000000024Voucher FAACQT000000003 Acquisition for fixed asset Build000000001, book BuildTax, already exists.”
Required Configuration
To achieve this scenario, its just so simple, all we need to do is below
Fixed Assets- Setup- Fixed Asset Parameter- Allow Multiple Acquisitions= ‘Yes’
Now we shall try to make acquisition for the same fixed asset Build000000001 by journal with 500 value and it will be posted
Lets check the fixed asset transaction and we shall see there are two acquisitions as it was required.
And now, if we check the value, it will show as 5500 (5000+500) as acquired price, hence the requirement is met as per the expectation
That's it for this blog, I hope this will help you for this topic whenever required.
Stay blessed and stay connected

@ramit thanks for the post. Somehow I’m having difficulty to find the right report for fixed assets. Fixed asset roll forward is nice, but has it’s limitations, especially when it comes to lay-out. We want to have a straightforward fixedassettransactionlist that accountants can pivot in Excel. If acquire-transactions from a PO or invoice occur for fixed assets I am missing these in the assetjournal lines V2 data entity. Do you know any companies where they have set-up the fixed asset numbers as a financial dimension?
