Jet Basics – Connecting the Data Source

ShawnMD Profile Picture ShawnMD 1,456 User Group Leader

Now that Jet Basics is installed, it’s time to connect to the Dynamics GP Data Source.

GP Data can be both on site (on premises) or in the cloud (Remote Data Service).

Below is a quick guide on how to connect to your data source!

From within Excel, click on the Jet Ribbon and then Settings, Data Source Settings:

1

In the Data Source Settings window, click on Data Source Type and select the appropriate type.  The type for our example will be on premises.  Give your connection a name.

Next click on the Authentication option on the left hand site:

3

I am leaving my authentication as Windows Authentication.

Next click on the Connection Button on the left hand side.

Here is where we will put our server name, select the Dynamics system database, and then the default company.  NOTE – only one connection/data source is needed even if you have multiple companies.

Once you have this window populated, click the TEST CONNECTION at the top to validate your credentials.

There are two more buttons on the left but we are going to address them in our next blog – GP Update Utility.

Thanks for reading!
