In many organizations, especially those operating in multilingual environments, maintaining consistent communication with customers is essential. In earlier versions of
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
, the language used on invoices and other sales documents depended on the
user interface (UI) language
of the person creating or printing the document.
While this behavior worked in some cases, it could also lead to unintended results—particularly for businesses that primarily serve local customers.
The Challenge with User-Based Document Language
Previously, the language of customer-facing documents such as invoices and sales confirmations was automatically determined by the
user’s UI language
.
This meant that if an employee working in a different language generated or printed a document, the document could appear in that language instead of the customer’s expected local language.
For example:
A company mainly serves customers who expect documents in
German
.
An employee using an
English UI
generates an invoice.
The invoice may be produced in
English
, even though the customer expects
German
.
This situation could create confusion for customers and lead to unnecessary follow-ups or corrections.
New Enhancement: Default Language Code on Company Information.
With the release of Business Central 2026 Wave 1 (BC28),
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
has enhanced document language management by introducing a new
Default Language Code
field on the Company Information page.
This new setting allows organizations to define a
company-wide default language
for customer-facing documents such as:
Sales Invoices
Sales Quotes
Order Confirmations
Other sales-related documents
Once configured, the system will generate these documents using the defined default language, regardless of the UI language used by employees.
Setting the default language:
Open
Company Information
.
Locate the
Default Language Code
field.
Select the preferred language.
Generate Sample
Order confirmations
.
