Are you a Microsoft Dynamics 365/CRM admin who is eagerly anticipating the April 2019 release?
Microsoft reports that starting on February 1, 2019, you can begin to preview the features coming in April 2019 in your system for general availability.
In order to see and preview these features, you have to opt-in to the preview feature updates in the Power platform Admin center, which will enable all of the features and updates for Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement.
Microsoft reports there are even more granular controls in their roadmap, which are expected to be rolled out sometime after the April 2019 release.
Environments that can be used to preview features include Production, Trial, and Sandbox, allowing admins the flexibility to explore the features and adopt them at a comfortable pace.
Microsoft recommends admins create a copy of their Production environments as a Sandbox environment while testing.
Sandbox environments, as a reminder, can always be reset, backed up, and restored as you test features, all without affecting your Production environment.
Once you opt-in, you will be able to try new platform features in Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement and apps like Sales, Service, and Marketing, which also includes any updates to the existing functionality which Microsoft will make mandatory come April 2019.
Microsoft reminds that the preview will not include features and updates that will not be enabled in April 2019.
Other features will be available one-by-one. You can learn more about these features in the April 2019 release notes, which are set to be released on Jan. 21, 2019.
To check if your environment preview is enabled for the April 2019 release as an admin, navigate to the Power platform Admin center to view the opt-in status of your environment.
Users can check by navigating to the About page of their environment to see if “April 2019 (preview)” is listed with “version” information.
Starting on April 5, 2019, Microsoft will start a gradual region-by-region deployment cadence to enable release features across its global customer base.
The update will not require any scheduled downtime but act much like the Minor Service Update experience from Microsoft.
To prevent wait-time by region, follow the steps mentioned above to “enable” the updates yourself by opting-in to the preview between Feb. 1, 2019, and April 2019.
