On the new Licensing Guide for MS Dynamics CRM 2013 Microsoft just published http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=324515 , there is some basic information regarding 'External Users'.
Where can I get more information regarding this feature?
Mainly how would an External User connect, how would he be able to see & update information, what is the authentication method, is there a Demo?
Thank you! Omri
I would like to extend Omri's question here (without posting a new question).
The following is mentioned in the licence guide
"External (third party) users do not require USLs. External users are users that are not either your or your affiliates’ employees, or your or your affiliates’ onsite contractors or onsite agents."
So, if my customer is accessing CRM Online to log a Support Query, does this user account not consume a licence (USL)? If it does not consume a licence (USL), how do we setup users in a way that all customer user accounts can be treated as USLs.
I believe this is the same as in 2011. But you would want to contact your partner to have them download and discuss the Pricing and Licensing Guide for 2013 On Premise.
It is a little confusing and I'm not sure where(if) there is a document that explains it in any more detail.
External users are for portal type features. In CRM 2011 on-premise there was a license called External Connector License that provided a cost effective license for allowing "external" users access to CRM data. This blog post has a good overview: varghesedanny.com/.../crm-2011-external-connector
In CRM 2011 Online, this "feature" was included in your subscription and did not require additional licenses or fees.
In CRM 2013, Microsoft now removes the need for an External License Connector. So, it is now possible to create a portal or custom application and allow non-employees (non-onsite contractors) the ability to access CRM data without additional cost.
This license does NOT allow direct access to CRM or CRM forms. It is up to the customer to build an interface/custom UI for those users. Adxstudio Portals is a good option that provides portal capabilities and takes advantage of this feature.
In the example question where you want a customer to be able to create a case/ticket, or update their contact information, you will need to build the web portal or custom app to provide this capability, including any login, password and security requirements.
Thank you Mike
Though technically the same, impersonating a user seems to have different conditions attached than purchasing an external connector license. It seems that with the removal of the external connector license, Microsoft has also (inadvertently or not) removed the conditions surrounding the external connector license. It seems almost impossible to enforce employees and contractors not to connect through a self service portal such as an ecommerce website for browsing a catalogue.
I know this question is closed, but I'd also like to make mention of CRM Vertex Portals. Looks very good. http://crmvertex.com
can anyone help me with the following licensing question:
We have Dynamics CRM 2011 on-premise and we want to use the external connector for 2011. Do we have to buy anything? External connector is no longer on the price list.
