What is the impact of deactivating marketing lists in CRM2011? We have hundreds of historic lists that were used for events and are no longer to be used (locked), but they still show up in the active marketing lists. Ideally, we would like to deactivate these lists, but I can't find any information on what happens to related information if we deactivate the marketing list.
I didn't see any impact in deactivating the marketing list which are no longer used .
I have read some blogs that state that there is an impact to ROI reporting and related campaigns.
As I know it wont have any big impact on the functionality, just you cannot use this list anymore as an active list to do for example Campaign Activity to distribute it to the target in the list.
While, the ROI is counted from the Opportunity value and then like campaign, you just cannot use this list anymore, but in fact you can see the history by opening the inactive Marketing List and it wont break any previous relationship built when you use this List to any campaign.
Marketing List is just a list.
For example you have list of people you want to invite to your party this Year.
Then next year also change.
Then you found after this year party you realize you lost contact with 2 contacts inside the list and you made new friends with another 8 guys then you need to generate new list.
You can either create new list with new criteria (for dynamic) or add manually or you just use the old List then you remove and add manually it is up to you.
While your last party, you still linked to the old guest list, (assuming as campaign), while in fact the one who attended your party is not list, but the People or Company representative instead of the list.
While CRM has saved the Member to your target in the campaign, so you don't need the list anymore unless you want to re-use it to another Campaign.
Hope this helps.
If you deactive a list, the list will also be deactivated on every Contact that was on the list. Thus, you cannot backtrack the marketing list activities.
