I have created a rather complicated auto migration tool that can manage the migration of entities, metadata, workflows, plugins, and all data from crm onprem to online over the last few years working with customers performing this process and automating parts along the way.
Looking at setting up a commercial tool (I know there are others out there), but it would take a bit of effort to turn it into a production ready system. just wanting to get a feel as to the number of orgs people work for or work with that still use onprem and would migrate to the cloud if there migration path was far less complicated.
Many companies still use on-premises by choice or due to not feeling ready to move to cloud. I think your tool will have its uses, but once companies move to the cloud they will no longer need it.
My thoughts: Number is huge... lots of business are still on prem...some due to legal obligations... some due to security concerns... specially banking /insurance and other systems where integrations are heavy. There is a lot of scope.
Currently I am working with a customer in Alabama, they are looking to migrate their on-prem system to cloud... they will be using migration scripts+SSIS+KingswaySoft combination. The thing is people generally go for "turn key" solutions... they are tested and optimized for performance over the period of time.
I would suggest Performance and Stability is two key features you need to be very sure of regarding your tool/framework.
Keep in mind MS also offers similar service "Fast Track Programe" which offers framework to migrate CRM 2011,2013,2015 to oncloud.
More on that here: fasttrack.microsoft.com/dynamics
Hope this helps.
